Last week we made a trip to Machilipatnam beach which is also known as Manganpudi beach. It is around 15kms from the Machilipatnam town. We crossed the Chilkalpudi village where there is an ancient temple of Pandurangaswamy. This is the only temple where we could go into the interior and touch the feet of the main diety. The village is also famous for gold covering ornaments. Raja gold covering ornaments that we see in the shops of the city are supplied from this place. Mermaids at the entrance of the beach  wait to welcome the visitors.
The statues of the fishermen point towards the sea.
A cop keeps a watch for trouble makers.
Two little kids run to the safety of their mother as a wave chases them.
This football enthusiast wants to experience the game on sand.
Look front goalie , the ball is coming.
The more crowd at the beach, the more profit for the ice-cream vendors.
Far from the maddening crowd. This girl enjoys the solitude of the sea-side.
No bar. Everyone likes to have a dip in the sea.
A wife cautioning not to venture into the deep.
With sunset the shoreline darkens. The revelers return all wet and damp. There are bathrooms for bath and change of clothes on the beach.  There is another big temple as we walk out of the beach on the side of the road. On both sides of the road we can see small salt lakes where sea water is collected at high tide and then salt farming is done.
Though the sand is dark and muddy unlike the golden beaches, yet I enjoy the view and the  breeze. The tide is not very high and safe for a swim. Machilipatnam is two hours bus journey from Vijaywada and by train it is three hours and is the last stop. Do not forget to visit Thatha Rao sweet shop at the Koneru center. Ask for Bandar Laddu and Badam halwa.
